How Big Is Your God?

“If you’re not daring to believe God for the impossible, you may be sleeping through some of the best parts of your Christian Life. And if the size of your vision for your life isn’t intimidating to you, there’s a good chance it’s insulting to God.”

– Steven Furtick

I love the song God is Able by Hillsong Live because the words remind me that God is powerful and, as the title says, able! “Greater than all we seek, greater that all we ask, He has done great things!” God has never been, and never will be unable to do anything! There is nothing that is too big for God.

We treat God like a helper for our plans rather than the other way around.

Too often today, we as Christians do not give God enough credibility. We limit Him to our imagination when, in fact, He is the one who created us and gave us the ability to even think at all! We forget that we serve the same God who made the sun stand still because He was called on in prayer (Joshua 10:1-15).  We do not serve some watered-down version of God today in 2014.  God’s power and ability to do the impossible has not diminished over time. Yet, far too often, we treat God like a helper for our plans rather than the other way around. What if we flipped it? What if we prayed for big, impossible things to take place at NorthPointe, in Fresno, the United States, and the world, and then waited expectantly because of our faith in God who we know is capable of miracles.

I really believe God loves doing what the world sees as impossible to display His power, but we, as His hands and feet, have to say yes to God in order to see the impossible become reality. We must take the first step, and when we do, we can and should be confident in the fact that God will blow us away in ways that only God could. You need to cast your vision for your life in a way that, when you have accomplished what you set out to do, the only possible explanation was God’s intervention. Set goals that you know you cannot accomplish on your own, have faith in your mighty God even though there are no tangible results yet (Hebrews 11:1), then praise God when you are able to accomplish your “impossible” goals through His incredible power!

Now is the time to begin trusting God to do immeasurably more than we can imagine (Ephesians 3:20).  Do not put off to tomorrow what God is asking you to do today! Pastor Perry Noble once said, “Procrastination is assassination on the amazing future God has planed for you.” God promises that doing what He asks us to do will lead to incredible blessings in our own lives, so why would we delay!?

We Say Yes to God because He is able to do what we think is not capable of being done!

Questions & Applications

  • In what areas of my life am I limiting God’s blessings by not believing him to do the impossible? My marriage? In school? With my kids? At work? With my money?
  • What is God’s vision for my life? What do I really want to see happen, but don’t think I have to ability or resources to accomplish?

God, you are great. You made the sun stand still as you fought for Israel and you even defeated death by coming back to life three days after dying on the cross for my sins. Praise you Jesus! You are capable of so much more than I could ever imagine. Only you can do the impossible! Nothing is too great for you because you are sovereign on earth and heaven. Forgive me for limiting you to my imagination. Today I call on you to replace my dreams and visions with your greater plans for my life. Replace complacency for what the world says is good with dependency on you, Lord, so that I can do what the world says is impossible, in your name. Today I declare that no weapon formed against your vision for my life will prosper! From this point forward, I will say yes to you, God, in everything you ask of me, no matter how big or small! Amen.
