Pastor Ronnie McDougall : Miracles Are Possible

Miracles Are Possible

Psalm 77:13-14 (NIV) What god is as great as our God? You are the God who performs miracles; you display your power among the peoples.

John 21:25 (NIV) Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.

Three Sides of Jesus to learn about

1. The rebuking Jesus.

Matthew 8:26-27 (NIV) He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm. The men were amazed and asked, “What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!”

2. The sleeping Jesus.

Luke 8:24 (NIV) The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Master, Master, we’re going to drown!” He got up and rebuked the wind and the raging waters; the storm subsided, and all was calm.

3. The questioning Jesus.

Luke 8:25 (NIV) “Where is your faith?” he asked his disciples. In fear and amazement they asked one another, “Who is this? He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him.”

Anchoring our Soul

Hebrews 6:19 (NIV) We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure…

• We’re anchored when we cultivate God’s presence.

Psalm 91:1-4 (NIV) Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.

• We’re anchored when we remember God’s promise.

Psalm 119:81 (NIV) My soul faints with longing for your salvation, but I have put my hope in your word.

• We’re anchored when we understand God’s process.

Romans 5:2-4 (NIV) And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.

Growing Deeper Together

Use these points throughout the week as part of your quiet time, in your small group, or over coffee with a friend to help you apply what you learned in today’s message.

  • Looking back at your notes from this week’s teaching was there anything that particularly caught your attention, challenged, or spoke to you?
  • Can you think of any times in your life when doing the right thing (obeying God) led you into a storm or led you out of a storm?
  • Have you weathered a storm in your life without being anchored in Jesus? How do you think your experience would have been different if His hope had been your anchor?
  • As others join the family of God and are taking steps of growth, they need believers to come alongside them in their journey. How can you help?
    • Volunteer to serve at Core Classes (coming up on June 11).
    • Offer to accompany someone to a Bible Study or prayer group.
    • Invite someone out for coffee and start a conversation
