Pastor Shane Ham : Nobody’s Perfect

Nobody’s Perfect

Colossians 1:19-23 (NIV84) 19For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, 20and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross. 21Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior. 22But now he has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation–23if you continue in your faith, established and firm, not moved from the hope held out in the gospel. This is the gospel that you heard and that has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven, and of which I, Paul, have become a servant.

1. We have a need for reconciliation.

We are not presentable before God.

2. God provides the way of reconciliation.

Leviticus 1:3-4 (NIV84) “If the offering is a burnt offering from the herd, he is to offer a male without defect. He must present it at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting so that it will be acceptable to the Lord. He is to lay his hand on the head of the burnt offering, and it will be accepted on his behalf to make atonement for him.”

Leviticus 16:21-22 (NIV84) “He is to lay both hands on the head of the live goat and confess over it all the wickedness and rebellion of the Israelites–all their sins–and put them on the goat’s head. He shall send the goat away into the desert in the care of a man appointed for the task. The goat will carry on itself all their sins to a solitary place; and the man shall release it in the desert.”

His perfection becomes your perfection.

Your imperfection becomes his imperfection.

3. The results of reconciliation are explosive.

Personal/individual – you are now holy in his sight; free from accusation!

In Christ, you take God’s breath away!

Cosmic/legal – you are fully made right, or justified, before God.

In Christ, your reconciliation can never be taken from you.

1 John 1:9 (NIV84) If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

Colossians 1:19-20 (NIV84) For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.
