Making Room for More

Isaiah 54:2-3 (CSB) “Enlarge the site of your tent, and let your tent curtains be stretched out; do not hold back; lengthen your ropes, and drive your pegs deep. For you will spread out to the right and to the left, and your descendants will dispossess nations and inhabit the desolate cities.”

Why “Forward in Faith?”

1. We’re always led by God forward.

2 Corinthians 2:14 (NAS) Thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and manifests through us the sweet aroma of the knowledge of him in every place.

To build us up in him.

Ephesians 3:17 (TLB) “I pray that Christ will be more and more at home in your hearts, living within you as you trust in him. May your roots go down deep into the soil of God’s marvelous love.”

Even when “rocked” I can:

  • Feel loved on by God in it.
  • Turn to him in worship through it.
  • Freely submit to him over it.
  • Fulfill God’s purposes for me despite it.
  • Find ministry to others out of it.
  • Be bettered as a person from it.

To make us a blessing to others.

To make us trophies of his love & grace.

2. We’ll only make real progress through faith.

Hebrews 11:1, 6 (NAS) Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen…And without faith it is impossible to please him, for he who comes to God must believe that he is and that he is a rewarder of those who seek him.

It’s a believing way of seeing.

Hebrews 11:13, 27, 26 (TEV) It was in faith that all these persons died. They did not receive the things God had promised, but from a long way off they saw them and welcomed them…It was faith that made Moses leave Egypt without being afraid of the king’s anger. As though he saw the invisible God, he refused to turn back…for he kept his eyes on the future reward.

It’s an obeying way of acting.

Hebrews 11:8 (ICB) It was by faith Abraham obeyed God’s call to go to another place that God promised to give him. He left his own country, not knowing where he was to go.

It’s a trusting way of living.

Ephesians 3:20-21 (NIV) Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.

  • Elementary parents, today your kids began a series on friendship. We want kids to learn how to be great friends and how to find great friends. Our bottom line today was Be a Friend to Everyone. Ask your kids who needed a friend in our Bible story. (The Jewish traveler.) Who was NOT a good friend? (The priest and the temple assistant.) Who was a good friend? (The Samaritan man.) In our story, Jesus clearly illustrated that we are to be friends to everyone!
