The need for connection.
• We were created for connection.
Romans 12:5 (GW) Even though we are many individuals, Christ makes us one body and individuals who are connected to each other.
• The ultimate strength is found in connection.
Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 (NLT) Two people are better than one, for they can help each other succeed. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble.
What hurts our connection? (Mindset)
1. I can do it alone.
2. I learn best on my own.
3. I don’t belong.
1 Corinthians 12:15-21 (NLT) 15 If the foot says, “I am not a part of the body because I am not a hand,” that does not make it any less a part of the body. 16 And if the ear says, “I am not part of the body because I am not an eye,” would that make it any less a part of the body? 17 If the whole body were an eye, how would you hear? Or if your whole body were an ear, how would you smell anything? 18 But our bodies have many parts, and God has put each part just where he wants it. 19 How strange a body would be if it had only one part! 20 Yes, there are many parts, but only one body. 21 The eye can never say to the hand, “I don’t need you.” The head can’t say to the feet, “I don’t need you.”
How to help others connect.
1. Be connected yourself.
• Do your part.
Ephesians 4:16 (NLT) He makes the whole body fit together perfectly. As each part does its own work, it helps other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love.
2. Love others.
1 John 4:21 (NLT) And he has given us this command: Those who love God must also love their fellow believers.
Growing Deeper Together
Use these points throughout the week as part of your quiet time, in your small group, or over coffee with a friend to help you apply what you learned in today’s message.
• Make the evaluation: What has held you back from connecting?
Look at northpointe.org/events, where can you get plugged in?
Is there a bible study, small group, or other class you can attend?
• What are some barriers that are preventing you from connecting with others at church?
Read Ecclesiastes 4:9-10, what does scripture say about doing things alone versus together?
Are you holding on to old hurts that are preventing you from stepping out to connect with others? What steps can you take to heal those wounds and move forward?
• How can you be courageous and create a culture of connection in your life?
Can you become a small group leader, and offer to host in your home?
Think about some of your interests (sports, reading, crochet, running, etc.). How could you turn that into a ministry? Invite people to enjoy that with you and help connect them to the family of Christ.
Core Classes are a great way to learn more about each of the Purposes we’re talking about in this series.
