The Wet Bandits

Attitudes that rob us

John 10:10 (ESV) The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.

Anxiety & stress steal the joy of comfort.

Busyness steals the joy of calm.

Jealousy & envy steal the joy of contentment.

Loneliness steals the joy of community.

Loss & grief steal the joy of confidence.

Sin & guilt steal the joy of Christ.

These “thieves” are symptoms of a lack of true peace.

Peace that restores us

True peace is found in the presence of God.

Matthew 1:22-23 (CSB) Now all this took place to fulfill what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet: See the virgin will become pregnant and give birth to a son, and they will name him Immanuel, which is translated, “God is with us.”

Choose to worship first.

Matthew 2:11 (CSB) Entering the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother, and falling to their knees, they worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

Philippians 4:6-8 (NLT) Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.

Trust his plan, one step at a time.

Jeremiah 29:11 (CSB) “For I know the plans I have for you” – this is the Lord’s declaration – “plans for your well-being, not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”

John 10:10 (ESV) The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.

  • Which of the attitudes that AJ listed do you struggle with the most? Can you see the effects of what it is stealing from you? Which of the “C” words take the biggest hit in your life?

  • If a person who doesn’t know what it means to have a relationship with Jesus asked you about John 10:10, how would you explain who the “thief” is and what he’s doing? How would you describe what “abundant life” means to you?

  • Talk with your small group about what it looks like in your life when you are experiencing true peace. Share with them about a time when everything on the outside was going wrong, but on the inside you were settled and peaceful (thermostat vs. thermometer).

  • Read 1 Kings 19:9-13. Elijah is told to go into the Lord’s presence. Is that a command you need to hear? Are you entering into God’s presence continually, willingly? Have you asked him to help you find the peace you desire?

  • Many times, we feel that we’ve got to take giant leaps in our relationship with God, but Collin talked about taking small steps to trust. What is one step you can take today? Who can come alongside you for encouragement and accountability?

  • Elementary parents, today your kids heard about a very surprising message that was shared by a very surprising person. Ask kids what the message was and who came to give this amazing news. (An angel told Mary and Joseph that Mary was going to have a baby.) The news of the baby about to be born fulfilled the promises God had made to send a Savior. Our bottom-line today is God keeps his promises.

  • God Of The Promise

  • Glorious Day

  • Tremble

  • Raise A Hallelujah

  • Yes I Will
