What in the World Are We Up To?

Matthew 16:18 (NLT) “I will build my church, and all the powers of hell will not conquer it.”

Following the great commandment.

Matthew 22:37-40 (NIV) “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

Fulfilling the great commission.

Matthew 28:18-20 (TEV) “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Go, then, to all peoples everywhere and make them my disciples: baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and teach them to obey everything I have commanded you. And I will be with you always, to the end of the age.”

The “Big 5” that drive all we do

Worship – Surrendering wholly to God.

Romans 12:1 (TEV) Offer yourselves as a living sacrifice to God, dedicated to his service and pleasing to him. This is the true worship that you should offer.

Romans 6:13 (TLB) Give yourselves completely to God…you want to be tools in the hands of God, to be used for his good purposes.

Fellowship – Enjoying God’s forever family.

Ephesians 2:19 (TLB) Now you are no longer strangers to God and foreigners to heaven, but you are members of God’s very own family, citizens of God’s country, and you belong in God’s house-hold with every other Christian.

Discipleship – Growing Christlikeness.

Ephesians 4:13 (GW) …Until all of us are united in our faith and in our knowledge about God’s Son, until we become mature, until we measure up to Christ, who is the standard.

Ministry – Serving others in Christ’s love.

1 Peter 4:10 (TLB) God has given each of you some special abilities; be sure to use them to help each other, passing on to others God’s many kinds of blessings.

Evangelism – Sharing Christ’s message.

Acts 1:8 (NIV) “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

What’s on our radar?

1. Sending Spirit-empowered servants both local & global!

Revelation 5:9-10 (NIV) “…You were slain, and with your blood you purchased men for God from every tribe and language and people and nation. You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God…”

5 “Global Giants”: Spiritual emptiness; Selfish leaders; Systemic poverty; Serious diseases; Sustained illiteracy

The P.E.A.C.E. Plan we’re pursuing:

Plant & partner with Churches

Colossians 1:6 (NLT) This same Good News that came to you is going out all over the world. It is bearing fruit everywhere by changing lives, just as it changed your lives from the day you first heard and understood the truth about God’s wonderful grace.

Encourage & equip servant leaders

Assist the poor

Isaiah 58:10-11 (NIV) If you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become like the noonday. The LORD will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.

Care for the sick

Educate the next generation

2. Learning how to do it larger & better.

Isaiah 54:2-3 (HCSB) “Enlarge the site of your tent, and let your tent curtains be stretched out; do not hold back; lengthen your ropes, and drive your pegs deep. For you will spread out to the right and to the left, and your descendants will dispossess nations and inhabit the desolate cities.”

3. Striving to make it deeper & warmer.

  • When did “the Church” become a positive idea and presence in your life? Why do you think it’s not a positive idea for many people?
  • Which – the “great commandment,” or the “great commission” seems to “turn your crank” the most? Why? What do you feel you need to do about that?
  • Of the “Big 5” eternal purposes, which do you feel your strongest in?Which is the weakest or unfamiliar to you? What do you think God wants you to do about that? Why is balancing these so important to NorthPointe Church’s health & growth?
  • Which of the 5 “Global Giants” do you feel most passionate about or feel you have been prompted to address? How do you think God could use you and others at NorthPointe to take these on either locally or internationally?
  • How do you feel Jesus may be calling you to serve him in the world in light of the great commandment and great commission? How can your group pray for you?
  • Talk to your children this week about the “5 Global Giants” and how God wants us to have those on our hearts as we pray for and serve in the world. It just could be that God will call your child to strike a fatal blow at one or more of these in their lifetime! Pray with your children for the people affected at times these “giants” rear their heads in the news or in local or world events. You’ll be helping condition their servant hearts and turning their eyes on the real source of victory in all spiritual battles!
