Enthusiastic Stewardship

Acts 4:31–37 (NIV) 31After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.32All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of his possessions was his own, but they shared everything they had. 33With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and much grace was upon them all. 34There were no needy persons among them. For from time to time those who owned lands or houses sold them, brought the money from the sales 35and put it at the apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to anyone as he had need. 36Joseph, a Levite from Cyprus, whom the apostles called Barnabas (which means son of encouragement), 37sold a field he owned and brought the money and put it at the apostles’ feet.

What a steward believes:

God gives me his riches which enables me to release my riches.

Acts 2:44-47 (NIV) 44All the believers were together and had everything in common. 45Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need. 46Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, 47praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

The knowledge of grace gives me a change in my perspective.

Matthew 5:2 (NIV) “…blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”

The experience of grace gives me a change in my personality

The model of Christ’s grace gives me the “rule of thumb”.

Deuteronomy 8:10-14, 17-19 (NIV) 10When you have eaten and are satisfied, praise the LORD your God for the good land he has given you. 11Be careful that you do not forget the LORD your God, failing to observe his commands, his laws and his decrees that I am giving you this day. 12Otherwise, when you eat and are satisfied, when you build fine houses and settle down, 13and when your herds and flocks grow large and your silver and gold increase and all you have is multiplied, 14then your heart will become proud and you will forget the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery…17You may say to yourself, "My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me." 18But remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your forefathers, as it is today. 19If you ever forget the LORD your God and follow other gods and worship and bow down to them, I testify against you today that you will surely be destroyed.

Matthew 6:19-21 (NLT2) “Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do hot break in and steal. Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.”

Luke 16:9 (NCV) “I tell you, make friends for yourselves using worldly riches so that when those riches are gone, you will be welcomed in those homes that continue forever.”

How do you give?

Before an “experience of grace”:

Our giving tends to be passive and spontaneous.

After an “experience of grace”:

Our giving will be active and intentional.

Proverbs 11:24-25 (TLB) It is possible to give away and become richer! It is also possible to hold on too tightly and lose everything. Yes, the generous man shall be rich. By watering others, he waters himself.

Pick a % with the aim of growing in obedience”.

Let yourself be pushed by the combination of “beauty and duty”!

Where do you give?

There’s the tithe.

There’s beyond the tithe

There’s passion giving.

If I didn’t feel the need to “worry” about money the way I do, I would give…
