The Legacy of Godly Leadership

1 Corinthians 11:1 (CEV) You must follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ.

2 Timothy 2:2 (NKJV) And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.

1. Godly leaders act in humility.

Micah 6:8 (NLT) No, O people, the Lord has told you what is good, and this is what he requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.

Philippians 2:3 (NIV) Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves.

They put others first.

They listen to others.

They know how to say thank you.

2. Godly leaders live with discipline.

A disciplined approach to study.

Titus 1:8 (TEV) He must be hospitable and love what is good. He must be self-controlled, upright, holy, and disciplined.

A disciplined approach to communicating the Bible clearly and simply.

1 Timothy 3:2 (TLB) For a pastor must be a good man whose life cannot be spoken against. He must have only one wife, and he must be hard working and thoughtful, orderly, and full of good deeds. He must enjoy having guests in his home and must be a good Bible teacher.

Titus 1:9 (MSG) …and have a good grip on the Message, knowing how to use the truth to either spur people on in knowledge or stop them in their tracks if they oppose it.

A disciplined approach to financial integrity and generosity.

Titus 1:7 (NLT2) For an elder must live a blameless life. He must not be arrogant or quick-tempered; he must not be a heavy drinker, violent, or dishonest with money.

1 Timothy 3:3 (NIV) …not given to drunkenness, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money.

3. Godly leaders pursue integrity.

1 Peter 5:2-3 (NLT) Care for the flock that God has entrusted to you. Watch over it willingly, not grudgingly—not for what you will get out of it, but because you are eager to serve God. Don’t lord it over the people assigned to your care, but lead them by your own good example.

Offer God every part of your life.

Psalm 139:23-24 (NLT) Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.

Trust every part of God’s word.

John 15:7 (MSG) But if you make yourselves at home with me and my words are at home in you, you can be sure that whatever you ask will be listened to and acted upon.

Receive the fullness of God’s promise.

Ezekiel 11:19 (NIV) I will give them an undivided heart and put a new spirit in them; I will remove from them their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh.
