HSM Material, 10/4

Now the large group of those who believed were of one heart and mind, and no one said that any of his possessions was his own, but instead they held everything in common. And the apostles were giving testimony with great power to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was on all of them. Acts 4:32-33

“All the believers were one in heart and mind…” Let’s take time today to pray over unity in our local churches. Satan loves to attack the body of Christ and cause discord. Can you imagine how God could move through us if we put away our arguments…our pride and instead were united in our love for God and reaching our communities with the love and hope only Christ can give? -Love God Greatly, Made for Community (YouVersion)

WEDNESDAY, 10/4

The Book
Week 1

The Bible sold over 6 BILLION COPIES

1. The Bible has BEEN ON A JOURNEY.

• The Bible is a collection of 66 books
• by 40 different authors
• over almost 1,500 years
• on 3 different continents.
• Authors of all sorts: a ruler in Egypt, a shepherd, an IRS agent, a medical doctor, a philosopher, a fisherman.
• The Bible includes poetry, history, government records, prophecy, dialogue, parables, sermons, letters, and religious instructions.
• The Bible was originally written in three languages. The Old Testament was written in Hebrew, the New Testament was written in Greek and just a sliver of it was written in Aramaic.

2. The Bible has been INCREDIBLY PRESERVED.

3. The Bible is the INSPIRED WORD OF GOD.

Inspired = “GOD BREATHED”

2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NLT)
16 All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.
17 God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.

2 Peter 1:20-21 (NLT)
20 Above all, you must realize that no prophecy in Scripture ever came from the prophet’s own understanding, 21 or from human initiative. No, those prophets were moved by the Holy Spirit, and they spoke from God.

4. The Bible is COMPLETELY UNIFIED IN THOUGHT AND IS FINISHED.

The Bible – over 40 authors all with different walks of life, written over 1,500 years on 3 continents in various places, in different times, in different moods, in 3 languages, addressing many controversial subjects – and they all agree.

Deuteronomy 4:2 (NLT)
2 Do not add to or subtract from these commands I am giving you. Just obey the commands of the LORD your God that I am giving you.

Galatians 1:9-10 (NLT)
9 I say again what we have said before: If anyone preaches any other Good News than the one you welcomed, let that person be cursed. 10 Obviously, I’m not trying to win the approval of people, but of God. If pleasing people were my goal, I would not be Christ’s servant.

5. The Bible is THE ONLY RULE OF FAITH AND PRACTICE.

Because God is sovereign, His Word is the absolute authority in our lives, and by it God equips us for His service.
