JHM Material, 10/3

Now the large group of those who believed were of one heart and mind, and no one said that any of his possessions was his own, but instead they held everything in common. And the apostles were giving testimony with great power to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was on all of them. Acts 4:32-33

“All the believers were one in heart and mind…” Let’s take time today to pray over unity in our local churches. Satan loves to attack the body of Christ and cause discord. Can you imagine how God could move through us if we put away our arguments…our pride and instead were united in our love for God and reaching our communities with the love and hope only Christ can give? -Love God Greatly, Made for Community (YouVersion)

Jesus And Stress

Lesson 4: Peace > Stress

What we want students to learn: That the Holy Spirit is present in their lives to give them peace and comfort.

What we want students to do with what they’ve learned: To remember to seek the Holy Spirit’s comfort and peace in times of stress or anxiety.

Scripture Focus: John 14:23-27

Supporting Scripture: John 14:1

Overview: For the past three weeks you have been teaching your students what the Bible says about stress, anxiety, worry, and making good decisions. In this final lesson you will leave them with the ultimate help for times when they feel troubled. Just as Jesus left His disciples with the promise of the coming of a helper, the Holy Spirit, you are ending this series of lesson with the reality of that Holy Spirit. Your students will find peace and comfort in life because the Holy Spirit is real and lives in the lives of every believer.

Outline

The following is what will be on the outline that students will be given for service. The part labeled “Front” is what will be taught during the message/teaching time. The part labeled “Back” is for your group to work through in order to dig deeper into the highlighted scripture.

PEACE>STRESS

John 14:23-27
23 Jesus replied, “All who love me will do what I say. My Father will love them, and we will come and make our home with each of them. 24 Anyone who doesn’t love me will not obey me. And remember, my words are not my own. What I am telling you is from the Father who sent me. 25 I am telling you these things now while I am still with you. 26 But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative—that is, the Holy Spirit—he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you.
27 “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.

THE HOLY SPIRIT IS…

GOD’S GIFT OF HIMSELF WITH US

John 14:23
Jesus replied, “All who love me will do what I say. My Father will love them, and we will come and make our home with each of them.

WITH US ALWAYS

John 14:25-26
I am telling you these things now while I am still with you. But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative—that is, the Holy Spirit—he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you.

TO BRING PEACE AND COMFORT

John 14:27
“I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.

(Back)

John 14:27
“I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.

Scripture of Focus:

• What is one thing that stood out to you in this passage?

• Why do you think it stood out to you?

• What can you apply to your life from this passage?

Discussion Questions

Use the following questions to further your discussion as a group. You can either do these after your Scripture of Focus time or you can use them within your scripture focus time to add to the conversation as a whole. As always you are welcome to guide the discussion the best that you and your co-leader think fits your group.

Did you know that God is with you wherever you go? Have you ever thought about the Holy Spirit being with you always? (Students may not really know about the Holy Spirit, feel free to spend some time talking about it)

Does remembering God’s gift of His spirit help bring peace when you are in difficult situations?

One of the most difficult feelings we have in stressful situations is loneliness or like no one else is feeling what you are feeling. How can you remember that with the Holy Spirit you are never alone?
